For now you can download from here a great, simple boot loader that will deal with any hard drive smaller than 128 GB.

It was written by Neil Koozer.I merely provide the hosting and i have no contribution at all to this program.I do use it though.:-)

It does not have yet multi boot capabilities but the author promised that it will be soon. For now you can use it either for a floppy or to make your partition record bootable. I tested it using the NT boot loader and a Linux install starting at cylinder 1072.It works.:-)

For Netscape please hold the shift key and click on the link.

nuni-0.07.tar.gz

You may ask yourself why another bootloader.Simple, even tough the new lilo will deal with partitions starting above cylinder 1024 it still WON'T install on a logical partitions.
Now why would somebody want to install a bootloader on the partition record? Simple,in case your mbr get tossed by reinstalling Windows or other reasons you can still boot your Linux install by making that partition active. Also in case you want to experiment some new Linux flavor and the only free space you have left is in the extended partition this is handy.
And last but not least Linux is about choice.

To configure nuni all yuo have to do is read the README file.
To determine the io's neede by nuni you have to type:
dmesg | grep ide0
dmesg | grep ide1
cat /proc/ioports | grep ide0
cat /proc/ioports | grep ide1

That you have identified all of required ioports just follow the README file and be done with it.
